Mail-Block agrees with the Twenty Eight Privacy and Civil Liberties Organizations asking Google to re-consider Gmail privacy policies.

Daytona Beach, FL. - April 7, 2004:
Mail-Block agrees with the Twenty Eight Privacy and Civil Liberties Organizations asking Google to re-consider Gmail privacy policies.

Mail-Block assist companies and government agencies each day protecting email users from unwanted email abuse tactics.

An alarming increase in the quantity of unsolicited commercial e-mail or spam is eroding the benefits of this ubiquitous communications medium. Spam is a cheap and effective marketing tool, a part of Internet culture that is here to stay. According to DirectPop Corporation Developers of the anti-spam technology Mail-Block, one in every two messages is spam. Corporate resources are consumed processing this glut. Our research found that the productivity costs add up to at least $4 billion a year. Added to the concern that one in seven messages contributes to a hostile workplace, these disturbing trends have driven enterprises to take a fresh look at the corporate liability of e-mail.

The core challenge in addressing unsolicited commercial e-mail is defining what is, or is not, spam. The definition is unique to each individual. This makes it difficult to control using legislation; governments do not have the right to determine what messages are legitimate for enterprises or individuals. Enterprises are exercising their right to control content on private networks using feature-rich, content-filtering solutions.

As we are seeing hundreds of companies are now starting to enter the anti-spam market due in part to the projected revenue companies will see for stopping the flow of junk mail to personal and business email accounts. In 2003 businesses spent well over 600 million dollars to stem the flow of junk mail, now the projection in 2005 is well over 4 billion dollars with no end in site. In coming up with the 600 million number we took several factors into consideration and did not just look at the cost associated with corporate networks but also took into consideration the cost to lost of advertising revenue Internet Services once enjoyed by spamming their own users. This comment is not intended to be a joke but a statement of fact.

On September 30, 2003 DirectPop Corporation CEO met with Microsoft’s Group Business Manager Kevin Doerr at the Redwood Campus in Redmond WA, on how MSN could stop the flow of junk mail to MSN customers. During this meeting Kevin was briefed on the workings of Mail-Block and handed information on how effective Mail-Block can be. In an interesting development,

NEWSWEEK’s Steven Levy recently sat down in New York City with Microsoft’s chairman and chief software architect Bill Gates to discuss technology, security and even a bit of politics.

Question:
Where are we in the fight to control spam, and what role is Microsoft taking to help?

Answer:
This is a great area for software advances; making it very easy for you to only get mail from people you’re interested in getting it from. The most straightforward solution is [a “white list”] where it only comes from people in your address book and you really make sure it actually is from those people. That’s not good enough because you still want mail from somebody you’re not anticipating to be able to get through. So there’s the idea of a proof that there’s really a person there as opposed to a spammer. The strongest solution is white list plus proof, and making it super-easy for that proof to be provided.

Well in the simple statement, Mr. Gates just described Mail-Block. Mail-Block uses a copyrighted and patent pending technology called VERGL (Verified Embedded Random Generated Link) system. Most uninformed people will make the false assumption that our system, VERGL, is Challenge and Response. Challenge and Response requires the sender to answer a question or solve a puzzle. VERGL is simplicity in action. Effort on the part of the sender is minor and no effort on the part of the receiver is needed. VERGL is truly the technology to repair the e-mail system as we know it.

On the surface Gmail appears like a vehicle to capture personal information for later marketing efforts. Programs like this will continue to erode our virtual communication medium we all know as e-mail. DirectPop Corporation continues to assist companies in the integration of Mail-Block into their corporate e-mail networks, so that one day e-mail privacy is the norm and not the exception.

DirectPop Corporation, the developers of Mail-Block anti-spam system are now becoming the leader in anti-spam software solutions using VERGL technology. Now providing service to companies’ world wide.
